I am a senior in college and buried in student loan debt. My parents can not help, and I don't even dare ask. It has taken me twice as long to graduate as I had planned because I have had to work full-time. I am engaged to a wonderful guy, but he doesn't really get how much stress I am under since his parents helped with his education.
I have always been on my own financially. I was never given a car, an allowance, a vacation, money for books or clothes. I started working at 14 just to be able to buy uniforms for my high school and help with tuition. I received scholarships that paid for tuition, but after the institution who had issued it had their scholarship fund had run out, I was out of luck. I had to move home to try and finish college. At this point, I have at least $100,000 in student loans. I am using credit cards to pay for books, my car is over 10 years old (but thank goodness it is still in decent condition), and my dreams of law school are all but forgotten. I need help, but I don't know where to turn.
I was diagnosed with cancer last semster, and ended up failing all but one of my classes. Now my college is putting me on academic probation and pulling my financial aid eligibility. I don't know what to do...
